SUMMARY:Walking the Mourner's Path - Spring 2026
DESCRIPTION:When someone in our life dies\, it affects our entire being. St. John’s offers “Walking the Mourner’s Path\,” a six- to eight-week grief support program that is grounded in prayer and reminds us that we are not alone in our grief. If you have lost a loved one and have walked the path of grief over the past year or years\, “Walking the Mourner’s Path” may be what you need. Open to St. John’s members and the community alike\, the program gathers participants for a series of small-group workshops. It’s different than a Sunday morning faith formation program\, but the format allows time for being still together\, sharing stories\, and seeing where God is in our grief and in our hope. The spring 2026 series of workshops will be held on Sunday afternoons from 3:00-4:30 PM in Killeen Hall at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Gatherings begin on Sunday\, April 26\, 2026 and will be held weekly through Sunday\, June 28. (We will not meet on 5/10 or 5/24.) There is a $65 fee* to cover the cost of the workbook. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER You will receive more information after you register\, but please feel free to contact Melanie Salsgiver with additional questions or for more details. \n\n\n\n*Please note that this cost should not prohibit you from attending. Scholarships are available as needed.

SUMMARY:Market Under the Stars
DESCRIPTION:This fall\, on Saturday\, November 22\, 6-9 PM\, we will gather for “MARKET UNDER THE STARS\,” a festive celebration in Eve’s Garden and Alfriend Hall. With string lights twinkling overhead\, experience the sounds of light jazz and laughter\, and the joy of holiday shopping with purpose. This one-night-only event will blend the most meaningful elements of our historic St. John’s Market—dating back to the late 1800s—with the warmth of fellowship and the spirit of giving. \n\n\n\nWith our traditional holiday bazaar on hiatus this year\, “MARKET UNDER THE STARS” offers a joyful and meaningful alternative—a chance to come together to support outreach ministries and honor the legacy of generosity that has defined St. John’s for generations. \n\n\n\nIn addition to Chef Fran’s delicious hors d’oeurves and festive music\, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a silent auction\, and Market favorites\, such as: \n\n\n\n\nHandmade Gifts & Jewelry\n\n\n\nHoliday Centerpieces & Arrangements\n\n\n\nSauces\, Jams\, & Jellies\n\n\n\nHomemade Chili & Cornbread To Go\n\n\n\nSweet Treats\, Cakes & Pies\n\n\n\n\nTickets are $40 in advance and $50 after November 16. Your $40 ticket reflects the real cost of the event and the outreach it supports. Feeling generous? Feel free to give more in the donation box provided! If $40 is a stretch for you\, we invite you to contact a member of the clergy in confidence. We want every St. John’s parishioner to be part of this joyful evening. (All tickets will be $50 after November 16.) \n\nPURCHASE TICKETS HERE

SUMMARY:POSTPONED: Cuba Mission Team in Zorilla
DESCRIPTION:Mission to Cuba Update 10/20/2025:\n\nAfter careful discernment and consultation with Father Juan Carlos\, Father Lonnie\, and Mother Leslie\, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our November Mission to Cuba. Widespread illness throughout the country has created unsafe travel conditions\, and the health and well-being of our mission team must remain a priority.\n\nWe are deeply grateful for the generosity\, enthusiasm\, and prayers of all who have supported this mission. Your love and care continue to strengthen the bonds between our parish and our brothers and sisters in Zorrilla.\n\nLooking ahead\, we hope to reschedule a trip in January or February—when cooler weather may bring improved health conditions—to deliver the much-needed supplies and financial support already collected.\n\nIn the meantime\, we ask that you keep the people of Cuba in your prayers for healing\, protection\, and peace.\n  \nSt. John’s will again send a mission team to visit our companion church\, Iglesia Episcopal San Pedro Apostol\, in Zorrilla\, Cuba\, Nov. 13-18. They will worship and share fellowship with the parish and community and deliver much-needed donations from St. John’s. Missionaries are: Francine Walker and Chris Schoonover\, co-leaders; Fr. Lonnie Lacy\, Alison Dillehay\, Joe Dillehay\, Paula Kiger\, Jan Porter\, and JR Saginario. Each will take donated supplies for San Pedro Apostol\, including over-the-counter medicines and vitamins for children and adults\, altar supplies\, and women’s items\, and other support for the church. \nYou can assist the November team by collecting the medicines\, vitamins\, and other needed health-related items. Purchase them any time before Nov. 1 and drop-off to the Cuba Mission bin in the St. John’s office\, or order for delivery to the church via Amazon: Click here for the list. As you scroll down to the bottom of each page\, be sure to click on See More Items. Prices for most of the donated items range from $2-25. \nHere is the full list of items needed: \nST. DESCRIPTION:The Capital Area Justice Ministry invites you to join us on Tuesday\, October 7\, at 5:30 PM in Killeen Hall. Together\, we’ll explore how our shared research and advocacy have already sparked real change in our community\, and we’ll discuss the urgent issues that still need our attention—like food insecurity\, gun violence\, and affordable housing. We’ll also discuss other issues that need  our attention in our community. \nCome be part of this important conversation as we answer God’s call to do justice and work for lasting change. \nHe has told you\, O mortal\, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice\, and to love mercy\, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8 \nTo learn more about the Capital Area Justice Ministry\, visit their website.
